I have trips planned for later this week and a few weeks from now, and like many people, I'd been hearing about TSA wait times and was growing concerned. I'm a frequent flyer — I've flown tons of trips, business and otherwise — and consider myself a pretty experienced traveler. I've always checked the security wait times on airport websites to get an idea of what to expect.
In the past couple of days, JFK, LGA, and Newark all canceled or suspended their reporting of wait times, and officials were unable to provide any real information. So I decided the best place to look was social media. I spent a lot of time searching Reddit, Twitter, and Bluesky, and found some useful reports, but the process was painfully slow.
I decided to use my programming skills to build something that sweeps those sites via their APIs on a regular basis to gather the information automatically. I started with LaGuardia, since that's where I'm flying out of soon, then expanded to JFK and Newark — and then figured, why not cover other major airports too? That's what you see here.
I'm spending a little bit of money on API costs and other small expenses to keep this running, so if you find it useful, feel free to make a small donation of any size. If you have any feedback, reach out to me at hello at chaddickerson.com. Good luck with flying!
